The State of Business for 2020

The State of Business for 2020

To say the least, 2020 has not been what any of us expected. Everyone has been impacted by a global pandemic, coupled with a variety of social and economic issues. Many companies were forced to lay off employees, reduce services, and even close the doors permanently. All companies, no matter their size, have had to make adjustments.

Early on, I had several of our customers inquire about ManoByte’s state-of-business. Fortunately, I am grateful to be able to say that business is going well. We have not only been able to survive, but grow. I would like to share my perspective on why things have gone well so far, along with my vision for the future.

Three years ago, I began thinking seriously about the purpose of ManoByte. I found our company was a commodity that was always competing on price. We struggled to differentiate ourselves and to communicate our value. In addition, we struggled with employee turnover. As I dug more deeply into the issues, I discovered that we had a “change” problem. We struggled to adapt to change that was coming at us from external forces. Our employees were afraid to change. We misunderstood change. We weren’t prepared to manage change. This was all problematic, because the one constant thing about agency life is change.

With that in mind, we began to shift our mindset and develop a culture of change. We began to realize that change does not have to be disruptive and chaotic. On the contrary, change can bring about stability and security.  This led us to change our vision statement.

For the past couple of years, this has been our vision statement:

At ManoByte, we believe that growth requires change. Change is inevitable and complex. For most, change is painful. We will become the most remarkable digital growth agency by taking the pain out of growth. We can do this by creating an ecosystem where employees, partners, and clients can collectively build innovative strategic growth solutions that allow all to achieve their personal, professional, and business dreams.

The way we at ManoByte think about growth and change has prepared us - and our clients - for being able to adapt successfully through this unexpected, turbulent time. Throughout the course of the pandemic, we can graciously say, we have not lost any clients, we have gained new customers, and we have helped our clients to successfully adapt and thrive.

Product Offerings

While our services are not classified as essential from a COVID-19 perspective, our services are essential to business growth. For mid-market manufacturers looking to grow, ManoByte offers strategic sales, marketing, and business solutions that leverage content, technology, and best practices to help companies reach their growth goals.

Over the last 12 years, we’ve expanded into an organization that delivers full-service marketing technology solutions, including strategy, implementation, and operation services for CRM, PRM, TCMA, and ERP.  We have been a premier HubSpot partner for six years and have spent the last four years specializing in channel marketing, helping manufacturers, dealers, distributors, and other indirect sales partners sell better together.

In 2019, after being asked to integrate our solutions with our client’s business systems, we made the decision to offer ERP solutions to our portfolio, and officially became a NetSuite partner in 2020.

The products and services that we offer have always been important, but have quickly become critical to many companies over these last few months. Our ability to fill those critical gaps is due to our solutions being digital and cloud-based; they are also focused on revenue generation and operational efficiency.

Everything we do is to help companies promote transparency and actionable insights within their organization. The key services we deliver are not new to us. We pride ourselves in being experts that can help our clients. This expertise has certainly paid-off, as these are the services that current, previous, and new clients have been investing in during the pandemic, as they know they are in good, trustworthy hands.

At ManoByte, we are in the people business and are dedicated to the overall well-being of our client accounts. To ensure our team is the best it can be, there are certain qualities we expect everyone that works for us to have. In fact, our team members are affectionately described as SHARKs:

In the book Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap and Others Don't, Jim Collins discusses the concept of getting the right people on the bus and in the right seat. For years, this was subjective for me. I thought the right person at ManoByte had to do with likeability or experience. That misconception led to many bad hiring and dismissal decisions. However, in 2019, we were introduced to Culture Index, and their methodology has empowered us to be systematic with ensuring we have the right people in the right positions. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, we have hired four killer SHARKS, including an amazing ERP Specialist from Ernst & Young.

Like most organizations, we too have taken all of our business operations remote, and will be doing so for the foreseeable future to protect our staff. Thankfully, the transition to being fully remote was easy for us, because we’ve long had the tools and processes in place. Even before COVID-19, we offered flex scheduling, where employees could work from home on Fridays.

To maintain our culture while working remotely, we have virtual check-in meetings a couple of times a week. Furthermore, to encourage strong camaraderie and stress management, we have virtual happy hours and offer Summer Fridays, where employees get to enjoy every other Friday off. Being a group of collaborators, we miss the in-person meetings, but the safety and well-being of our team members has always been the most important factor in our decision-making process.

In uncertain times, one thing is certain: change. When change comes rushing in, you can let it make you or break you. As you can tell by my update, at ManoByte we embrace change and grow through it. We hope you and your company are doing well, and would love to hear from you.

As always, we are here to help you transform and grow in order to meet - and even exceed - your goals!

Best wishes,

Kevin Dean
