If you use an SEO blog and don't take advantage of evergreen topics, or use the same set of keywords repeatedly, you can find your traffic dropping off. Understanding more about SEO teaches that you can't expect the same results year in and out. Search engines are continuously being updated to try and bring people the most relevant results they can. If the engines fail to satisfy the inquiries then they loose traffic themselves. The following are some simple tips on how to keep up to date with your website's SEO.

Check your ranking using multiple searches.

If you notice your website traffic is dwindling, the first thing you can do is test your keywords on different search engines and find your ranking. When it has dropped, it can be a sign it's time to change things up. One mistake companies who are unfamiliar with SEO make is using the same keywords over and over again. You need to use different combinations and variations on the keyword phrases to help keep your content from getting overlooked in searches. Sometimes simply rearranging the phrase or adding qualifiers to it can help improve hits overnight.

Keep your content relevant, fresh, and varied.

Keeping the content itself fresh and well written, and most importantly relevant is vital as well. Nothing kills ranking more than click backs. If you plant keywords inside non relevant articles and people quickly realize it is not what they want and hit the back button quickly, it can affect your ranking in some search engines. Using website analytical tools can help you keep track of your traffic and help you pinpoint potential issues with your SEO strategy.

Monitor your keyword density.

It is also important to remember that the ideal keyword density if between 1% to 3%. If your content is too heavy or too light on keywords it can affect your traffic as well. The easiest way to check your density, if you don't have access to tools that can do it right off the page, is to use a word processor. Even something as simple as Wordpad can help you analyze your content. All you need to to is copy it into the processor, do a word count, then do a word search for the keyword or phrase. A basic example for how to determine the density: You have a 500 words on your page in content. You like to keep a 2% density in keywords. You search it for your keyword phrase, “ purple duck”. You find that is only comes up five times. In a 500 word article, you need the phrase to show up 10 times to reach the correct density. Revising the content can help bring it up to par.
