The importance of link building is a much-discussed topic in the SEO world. With the ever-changing Google algorithms, it can be hard to keep up with which link building efforts are still considered effective from day to day. While there are many varying opinions, the number one thing to remember is that search engines look for two criteria when evaluating your websites links: quality and quantity. Both of these are important in helping your website be found more quickly in Google.

1)  Create Valuable Content on a Regular Basis

This is the easiest and fastest way to gain quality links back to your site. By really focusing on creating new and interesting content for your blog you will eventually gain a loyal readership who will hopefully click the share links and share your content on social media, earning you links.

2)  Share Links on Social Media

After you finish creating new and amazing content be sure to share it on social media. Tweet it out. Promote it on LinkedIn and Google+. And make sure to connect your blog's RSS feed with Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+ so that your posts are automatically shared with your networks.

3)  Social Bookmarking

To go along with sharing links on social media, there are also many social bookmarking sites you can use to add links to your blog posts and specific site pages. This helps to create additional site mentions, citations, and backlinks. Sites such as Delicious, Digg, ScoopIt, and StumbleUpon are respected content curators.

4)  Social Profiles

Make sure your company's social profiles are filled out completely and include your website URL. Take advantage of automation features by linking to your website and blog. Search engines rely heavily on social networks to verify and give authority to their ranking.

5)  Quality Website Directory Listing

Listing your site (and giving a brief business description) on various website directories is good for your brand visibility. The trick is to identify both free and paid directories in your industry that are high quality, trusted and authoritative. These directories can also help to bring new business to your site.

6)  Link Outreach

You can accomplish this by reaching out to other bloggers and websites that share similar content and asking for them to add a link back to your site. This process can be difficult and time-consuming but if you take the time to learn how, it can help you gain quality inbound links. Getting these links is extremely important with improving your website's relevancy online.

7)  Answer Industry-Related Questions

Sites like Quora, Answers.com & Yahoo Answers allow you to answer industry-related questions. Doing so often and effectively will not only build your credibility, but it will also provide links back to your site within your answers.

8)  Guest Blog

Guest blogging is a great way to share your industry expertise while reaching an audience of potential clients. In order to submit a guest post, start by identifying the needs of the blogs audience. Then you will be able to write posts that are relevant and valuable to their needs. This will also help drive traffic back to your website.

9)  Press Releases

Releasing online press releases using services such as PRWeb, PitchEngine or Marketwire is still a good way to get important company news and information about your business in the hands of journalists, who can distribute it to a vast audience, while including an inbound link back to your site.

10) Link Trade

If you know of friends or colleagues in the same target market, that also offer complementary or relevant products ask if they would link to your site. This also works vice versa; if their products or services would favor your customers, it would make sense to link back to them. Share the link love!

While the goal is to have a mixture of outbound, inbound, and internal links, these links also have to be relevant to your content, business and audience. Be patient. Link building takes time and effort. You won’t necessarily see immediate results. By choosing what works for your business then diligently working on your link building strategy, you will be able to crack the code and eventually see your site rise in the ranks.
